Question What's the Best Way to Grind a Ranger,?

I'm at level 13, with Necro secondary, Drok's armor, and Poison Arrow elite, and it's going very slowly. Unlike Monk, where you can kill undead for 3 hours and gain 10 levels (heh heh), or Warrior and Ele where you can kill many mobs with AOE's, Ranger grinding seems to be a tedious, one-by-one kind of chore.

Any tricks to getting him leveled faster? TY

I solo farm with my R/E without traps. And I do quite well.

HE's a jack of all trades, with points in each ranger category and only for ele<fire> is only secondary trait.

He can glyph nuke and pet tank things while I make sure im alive with wilderness. Fun too. =)

Best exp is solo farm with doing quests. made level 11 in 4 hours.

IMHO, soloing rocks on a ranger =)

1. You can farm Grawl out of Droknars, but if you can get to Port Sledge, it's a much better place to start out of. There are paths where you can take the Grawl in groups of 2 - 6 there. The outlet from Droks gets you a few loners, but often there is a couple large clumps at the end of the corridor. The henchies at level 20 can easily carry you through the Grawl. It's very little effort, only time. Also you can cap Poison Arrow in this area. That skill will help you immensely.

2. Another great way to get to level 20 is just to do the missions. Even if you skip the ones you don't like, or just do the few you do like, it will really put a dent in the XP.

3. Grit your teeth and get through Sanctum Cay and then ascend. Working your way from Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay isn't too tricky, or you can pay a runner. Once you get through Sanctum, the desert has some good XP and beating your mirror for the 50k XP bonus can be pretty easy for a ranger.

4. If you don't have a decent bow, buy one. Alternatively if you have the patience you can get great collectors bows in the desert and in South Shiverpeaks. For around 5k plus the materials I think you can also craft a bow in Droknars. But for 5 - 10k you should be able to get a 15%>50 Longbow with some mediocre mods attached. A fiery bowstring will be helpful against south shiver mops: Ice Golems, Ice Imps, and Stone Summit. I think a +5 bowgrip of defense is a decent low cost mod to add as well. In most cases it's better than the way more expensive +30 health mod.

5. Check your skillset and make sure its working for you. Rangers are super versatile and some of the overlooked skills can work for you.

I hope some of that will be helpful.

I remember when I first started... I had a lot of help soloing with my pet. If you can afford 2 skill slots (Charm and Comfort) and some points into Beast Mastery, that's all you really need, IMO. Whirling Defense is good, too.

I usually grab the ranger by the legs and hold him to the grinder at a 45 degree angle. Keep a firm grip cuz sometimes they'll go flying...

Use your secondary?

The comment about pet tanks is also valuable - a good pet can make soloing much easier, once you learn to gather aggro onto your pet. If you do have a secondary with AoE damage abilities make use of them Mark of Pain +pet +slow their attacks (Shadow of Fear) should allow your pet to tank a bit, pound arrows into the mark of pain to splash damage to group. If you have Call of Protection you can have an even better tank, so really you should be able to deal the damage out.
